Since 15th March 2020, the Australian Federal and State Government governments have isolated the Australian mainland and Tasmania from international travel movements and imposed enforceable self isolation /quarantine and social distancing and sanitising protocols (including limits of people at indoor gatherings) within Australian borders as part of the government`s public health strategy to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
On 18th March 2020, the leadership of the Australian Judo Union considered this matter and decided to suspend all events on the AJU Calendar until further notice.
The Australian government has indicated that our lives will be disrupted and be subject to limits on public and private gatherings, isolation, social distancing and sanitising protocols to contain the spread of the COVID-19 Virus until a vaccination program is implemented which overcomes the COVID-19 Virus.
At this point in time, the government has advised that a vaccine is not yet available and is unable to advise when a vaccination program will be implemented.
Accordingly, the resumption of judo is dependent upon state jurisdictions and local outbreaks which can change resumption of judo activities very rapidly.
The Australian Judo Union will continue to monitor the COVID-19 Virus pandemic and advise our membership when AJU events will recommence.
The Australian Judo Union urges it members and the public to be patient and respectful of others during this crisis and to abide by the government`s advice and directions so that the COVID-19 Virus can be contained.
Each state government will be setting COVID19 Safety Standards and procedures. Generally judo schools and clubs are required to appoint a COVID Saefty Officer who must undergo basic COVID10 Training which is freely available at https://www.health.gov.au/resources/apps-and-tools/covid-19-infection-control-training. Each state government requires that each club or judo school to prepare a COVID Safety Plan which must be held by the COVID Safety Officer at the premises of the judo school. For further information please check the relevant state government website for your judo school.
